Reimagining the Justice System Panel
March 24, 2021

This much needed discussion surrounding prison reform and our broken justice system was held online on March 24, 2021. The speakers included four our Nation's leading thought leaders, founders and activists that are tackling issues surrounding the prison industrial complex. Art activist Genesis Be moderated this conversation around rebuilding a system based on rehabilitation, community healing and human dignity. We'll analyze historic systems of oppression, how we got to this point and how we can end the Profit over People mentality and practices that are destroying families. Participants walked away inspired and with a CLEAR call to action of how to personally fight against this egregious attack on human rights and basic liberties. The event is free and was co-sponsored with Focus for Health. Watch the recording here.

Caste: A Conversation
January 17, 2021

This antiracism teach-in was held on January 17, 2021. Rev. Jacqui Lewis, Ph.D. and Anu Gupta lead a conversation about Isabel Wilkerson’s award-winning book Caste: The Origin of Our Discontents. In the book, Wilkerson connects America’s own caste system to racial hierarchies in India and Nazi Germany, and how its evil continues to corrupt our national life. Together, Jacqui and Anu talk about how the book helps us better understand this political moment, and how we can begin to heal. Rev. Jacqui Lewis is Senior Minister at Middle Collegiate Church and is a renowed expert on racial justice education. Anu Gupta is founder of BE MORE and a sought-after mindfulness and unconscious bias expert and educator.
